"RAM" Prefix Code
For lightweight, strength and corrosion resistance, the RAM is constructed from marine grade aluminum with a black powder coated finish, stainless steel hardware and rubber balls. Standard mounts include a clamp mount, a round base, a rubber suction cup and a U-bolt mount for attaching electronics and GPS devices. Other configurations may be considered for portable systems in vehicles and for marine applications.
Support Videos
RAM balls are injection molded onto a marine grade aluminum post. The materials used to manufacture the balls and/or posts can be varied to provide the properties required for most applications.

RAM® DOCKING STATIONS AND HOLDERS
DOING IT RIGHT
When ordering a RAM mounting system or additional components, it is important to understand the part number system. To help you understand the part number format used, we provide the following example. There are four different sizes of a basic RAM mounting system including the corresponding arm, round base with ball.
Note: The size C 1.5" / 2.54cm ball does not have the letter C after the RAM prefix code, while all other sizes require a letter. Important: Make sure the letter is in the correct position in the part number so that you order the correct size for your system or component. If you are unsure, please contact us.
WEIGHT CAPACITY
B size 1" / 2.54cm ball mount for devices up to 0.91 kg weight (approx. 2 lbs)
C size 1.5" / 3.81cm ball mount for devices weighing up to 1.81 kg (approx. 4 lbs)
D size 2.25" / 5.71cm ball mount for devices weighing up to 2.72 kg (approx. 6 lbs)
E size 3.38" / 8.58cm ball mount for devices weighing up to 6.8 kg (approx. 15 lbs)
What does a "U" in the article number mean?
"U" stands for "Unpacked", and the product is delivered in a plastic bag. Otherwise, the item is delivered in retail packaging, box or rider.
A RAM-B-201 is therefore exactly the same product as a RAM-B-201U, the packaging is different.
The item I want is listed as "Custom-made"
On the website we only show our available stock. It may happen that we have composite items available instead or vice versa. If you need help finding the right one, you are welcome to contact us.
What weights are recommended for the different ball sizes?
A-size 0.56" / 14 mm ball mount for devices up to 0.25 kg, and less for heavy-duty applications *
B-size 1" / 25 mm ball mount for devices up to 1 kg, and 0.5 kg for heavy applications *
But up to 5 lbs / 2.2 kg in applications with very low shock and vibration. But even less than 0.5 kg in extreme applications **
C-size 1.5" / 38 mm ball mount for devices up to 2 kg, and 1.5 kg for heavy applications) *
But up to 4.5 kg in applications with very low shock and vibration. But even less than 1.5 kg in extreme applications **
D-size 2.25" / 57 mm ball mount for devices up to 3 kg, and 2.3 kg for heavy-duty applications *
But up to 6.8 kg in applications with very low shock and vibration. But even less than 2.3 kg in extreme applications **
E-size 3.38" / 86 mm ball mount for devices up to 7 kg, and 4.5 kg for heavy-duty applications *
But up to 13.6 kg in applications with very low shock and vibration. But even less than 4.5 kg in extreme applications **
*NOTE! Please be aware that the maximum weights above are a guide.
**NOTE! Please be aware that the maximum weights above are a guide. Different applications and mounting angles will affect these limits! We always suggest testing in each individual application to verify.
For example, see below: Important: Due to the ball joint system and the endless variations possible to build with the RAM mounting system, professional solutions must be tested in each application to ensure proper functionality.
Marine/Sport Fishing: On a light, fast-moving powerboat, it is wise to aim for the lower of the listed weight limits. On a heavy sailboat or very large powerboat, you can probably use the higher of the listed weights.
Forklifts/Construction Vehicles/Tractors: In a forklift that has no suspension and frequently drives over concrete thresholds, it is wise to aim for the lower of the listed weight limits. In a well-suspended cab on a logging machine or in a semi-trailer, you can probably use something between the lower and higher weights.
Bike/Powersport: On a motocross bike it is wise not to exceed the lower weight limit. On a downhill or road bike it is also wise to stay around or below the lower weight limit for phones and GPS etc, while when mounting a camera on the bike it is recommended to stay well below the lower weight limit for vibration-free filming. On a Honda Goldwing or larger bike you can go above the lower weight limit, but not up to the higher stated weight.
How long are the different arms?
If you want to translate to centimeters, 1" = 2.54cm
Regarding painting
For production reasons, it may happen that certain parts of some products are not covered 100% by the black paint. The underlying aluminum surface may then appear. These surfaces are usually in places where they are not prominently visible in the product's normal position of use. The most common place where this can occur is on the aluminum shaft just below the ball. It is important to know that these cosmetic defects do not affect the function of the product and are not to be considered a defect in the product and are therefore not an acceptable basis for a complaint.
