The letter after RAM tells you the ball size: RAM-B-166 uses a 1″ B ball, while RAM-D-201 uses a 2.25″ D ball. C size parts are the exception and carry no letter, so RAM-201U is a C size arm.

The RAM® Double Socket Arm - C Size Medium (RAM-201) serves as the “socket” in the RAM® patented ball-and-socket mounting system. This double socket arm connects to any two C size ball adapters or bases. A spring inside the arm keeps one socket open, making it easy to attach to a ball.
